Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of restorative justice in handling theft offenses committed by children at the Cirebon City Police Department. This issue arises because the practice of legal resolution for children has not been consistently carried out through a restorative justice approach, thereby potentially neglecting the fulfillment of children’s rights, which should be treated differently from adults. The research method used is normative legal research with an empirical approach, conducted through interviews with police officers at the Cirebon City Police Department. The research results show: first, the implementation of restorative justice in handling juvenile theft cases at the Cirebon City Police has been fairly effective; second, the success of this approach depends on the existence of an agreement between the perpetrator and the victim, facilitated by the police through a mediation process; third, the resolution of cases outside the judicial process is able to provide legal certainty in line with the principles of child protection within the national legal system.
