Abstract

Background: Candidiasis caused by Candida albicans. Candida albicans is the most abundant species worldwide. Treatment of systemic antifungal groups in candidiasis can use drugs from the Imidazole class. One of the plants that can be used as an antifungal alternative is jackfruit leaves.
Objective: Therefore, in this study, we wanted to know the ethanol extract of jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus. L) because no one has researched it and wants to know whether the ethanol extract is able to inhibit the growth of Candida albicans.
Method: This research is an Experimental Laboratory research with Posttest Only Control Group Design that uses Candida albicans as the research subject. The research subjects were jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L) ethanol extract at 80% and 100% concentration, ketoconazole tablets 200mg (K+) and DMSO 10% (K-) were tested for antifungal zones. The research data were statistically analyzed using One Way Anova followed by the Tamhane Post Hoc Test.
Result: The results of the average inhibition of the ethanolic extract of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus L) leaves at a concentration of 80% (1.9 mm) and a concentration of 100% (2.7 mm). It can be concluded from the results of the One Way Anova test showing a significant value of < 0.001. (p-value <0.05), then there was a significant difference in inhibition in each group, there was an inhibition zone for the ethanolic extract of jackfruit (Artocarpus heterophyllus. L) leaves on the growth of Candida albicans.
Conclusion: The ethanol extract group on jackfruit leaves (Artocarpus heterophyllus. L) with a concentration of 100% was the most effective against the growth inhibition of Candida albicans with an average diameter of 2.7 mm.
