Abstract

Background: Medical education is known as a heavy academic burden with high stress
levels, especially for final year students. The academic demands experienced by
medical students are often reported as the reason for the high tension-type headache
among medical students; this condition is consistently found in most medical education
in the world. Tension type headache infrequent is the tension type headache that most
often happens at age 20-30.
Objective: The study is aimed to determine the relationship between anxiety and the
incidence of Tension-type headache infrequent in preclinical students at the final level
of Faculty of Medicine, Swadaya Gunung Jati University.
Methods: This study is analytical observational study with a sectional cross design.
The number of research samples used in this study was 128 people. The sampling
technique used is simple random sampling. Statistical test using Spearman’s
correlation.
Results: The results of the Spearman correlation test showed there was a significant
relationship (p<0.001) between anxiety levels and TTH with moderate correlation
strength and positive correlation direction (r = 0.410).
Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between anxiety levels and TTH in
preclinical students in the final year of the Faculty of Medicine at Swadaya Gunung
Jati University, where the lighter the anxiety experienced, the lower TTH experienced
(infrequent).
Keywords: anxiety, Tension Type Headache infrequent, medical faculty preclinical student
