Abstract
Abstract
The narrative writing skills of third-grade elementary school students are still relatively low, as evidenced by difficulties in expressing ideas, limited vocabulary, and minimal interest in writing activities. This study aims to determine the effect of using YouTube on the narrative writing skills of third-grade elementary school students on the theme of “My Vacation.” The method used was an experiment with a pretest posttest design and a control group. The sample consisted of 27 students at SDN Karang Jalak 2. Data were collected through narrative writing tests before and after the intervention. The results showed an increase in the average score from 33.60 to 55.60 after learning using YouTube videos. A paired t-test showed significance at p = 0.000 with a large effect size (Cohen's d = -1.564), indicating a strong and statistically and practically significant effect. In conclusion, YouTube media is effective in improving students' narrative writing skills, including story structure, language use, and paragraph coherence, and is worthy of being considered as an alternative learning medium for literacy in elementary schools.
