Abstract

Introduction : Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative disease that involves cartilage, joint lining, ligaments and bones so that it can cause joint stiffness. The course of the disease is usually slow, but can cause severe joint pain to disability in the form of joint motion failure. Radiographic changes, especially osteophytes, are very common in osteoarthritis which can be assessed according to the Kellgren-Lawrence criteria. Obesity, aging and female gender are risk factors in the severity of OA patients.
Purposes : Knowing the relationship between body mass index, age and gender on the severity of osteoarthritis in the Waled Hospital, Cirebon District
Methods : Observational research with a cross sectional design from medical record data of osteoarthritis patients in 2021 at the Outpatient Orthopedic Polyclinic of Waled Hospital, Cirebon Regency. Statistical analysis was performed with Spearman correlation test and logistic regression with SPSS version 25 for windows application. To determine the relationship between body mass index, age and gender to the severity of osteoarthritis.
Hasil : The results of the analysis obtained p = 0.042 (p <0.05) on the body mass index with the degree of osteoarthritis. For age, the severity of osteoarthritis was found to be p=0.001 (p<0.05) and for gender, the severity of osteoarthritis was p=0.008 (<0.05). With the results of logistic regression, it was found that the variable that had the greatest influence on the degree of osteoarthritis was found in the sex variable because the value of Exp(B) (10.772) was greater than BMI (2.166) and age (5.262).
Discussion : There is a significant relationship between body mass index, age and gender on the severity of osteoarthritis in Waled Hospital, Cirebon Regency.
