Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the leadership style of the village head of Nanggerangjaya in order to enhance the professionalism of the village government apparatus and to determine which leadership style is most effective in improving employee productivity and motivation. The focus of the study is the suboptimal performance of the village apparatus, characterized by a lack of discipline, unclear responsibilities, and a lack of team collaboration. The study involved village officials selected through purposive sampling, including the village head, village secretary, and hamlet heads; a descriptive qualitative approach was used, and data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, and documentation were employed. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana interactive model, and triangulation was used to test its validity. The results indicate that the village head’s leadership is flexible and situational, implemented through directive, supportive, participatory, and achievement-oriented styles in accordance with Path-Goal Theory. Integrating these leadership styles can enhance employee motivation and engagement while fostering task clarity and a conducive work environment. In short, sustainable improvements in village administrative performance can be achieved through leadership that balances strict adherence to rules with the most supportive and participatory approaches.
