Abstract

Numerous studies have investigated the utilization of English movies for language learning purposes. Nevertheless, there has been limited research focused specifically on understanding learners' perspectives regarding the benefits and challenges associated with using English movies to learn the language. This qualitative research study aimed to investigate learners’ perspective on the use of English movies in learning English. The study specifically focused on understanding the learners' perspectives on the benefits and challenges associated with using English movies to develop their language proficiency. The participants consisted of three learners who met the criteria determined by the author. In this research, Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) was employed as the chosen method for data analysis. The findings of this research revealed that the participants believed that movies serve as authentic sources for learning English and can be effectively utilized to enhance various language skills such as speaking, listening, vocabulary, and even reading and writing. Moreover, the results indicated that movies were perceived as beneficial in terms of increasing learners' motivation to learning English. This study is valuable as it reveals creative and innovative teaching strategies that can be implemented in English language education. However, in terms of future research, it is important to note that the study's findings only provide insights into English language learners' perspectives on using movies to enhance their language skills.
