Abstract

Speaking is the important ability to be mastered in learning language, especially in learning English as a foreign language. This research explores about the analysis of
students’ speaking English anxiety in Public Speaking class in at 2nd semester of English Department of Swadaya Gunung Jati University Cirebon in the academic 2022/2023. The objectives of this research are to find the types and the factors of students’ speaking anxiety. A qualitative research method was used for this research. The 20 students who had public speaking class in the 2nd semester was choosen to be participants in this research. In this research, the researcher used observation, and questionnaire for collecting the data. The researcher used Interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) to analyze the data. From the data analysis, the researcher found some conclusion about the factors and types of speaking anxiety that faced by the students at public speaking class, as follows : first the researcher found the factors of speaking anxiety were : Over self-prediction toward fear, Irrational faith or Self-defeating, Over sensitivity toward threat, The sensitivity of anxiety. Second the researcher found the types of speaking anxiety which were trait anxiety and state anxiety. In this research, the researcher also found the dominant type of speaking anxiety that is trait anxiety.
