Abstract
This study was motivated by the low interest of students in learning English. This
study was conducted on 5th grade elementary school students in 2022, which
amounted to 15 students. At the beginning of learning English, students had no
interest at all and did not want to learn English; even students in elementary school
could not speak English at all. The researcher tried to solve the problem by increasing
students' learning motivation by providing varied instruction and rewarding students
for their achievements. With the application of these methods, little by little, students
began to be active in learning English and began to memorize a lot of vocabulary. In
the learning process, students need to be guided little by little because, over time,
their development will continue to increase. In this study, researchers used descriptive
qualitative methods. Descriptive research describes and interprets an event, condition,
or situation that occurs in the present. The results of this study indicate an increase in
student interest in learning English and the achievement obtained by students. After
learning English for approximately 4 months, students began to understand a lot of
new vocabulary, and they also wanted to continue learning English because they said
it was fun.
