Abstract

This study aims to investigate students using TikTok as a medium to their
speaking learning autonomy and than to investigate the impact of using TikTok as
a medium to students' speaking skills. The research method used is descriptive
qualitative method. The participants for this study used a purposive sampling
technique with a total of 4 informants from a high school in Indramayu who
carried out the process of English learning autonomy, especially speaking using
the TikTok application. Data collection techniques using interviews and
documentation techniques. The research data was obtained through interviews
with high school students as primary data and documentation collection as
secondary data. In analyzing the data using the Miles-Huberman analysis method
which consists of data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions or
verification. The results show that participants can use the TikTok application as a
medium for speaking Learning Autonomy. The majority of participants stated that
they learned mostly through video content, challenges, duets, or games. The entire
learning process can be carried out according to self-guided, self-management,
self-motivation, self-control and self-monitoring. Based on the interview result,
the participants showed that they can use TikTok as well to their speaking
learning autonomy. Participants get the positive impact, usage experience and the
usefulness of using TikTok as a medium to students’ speaking skill. In addition,
they agreed that TikTok could help them apply speaking learning autonomy outof-class. They also agreed to suggest using TikTok as a speaking learning tool.
