Abstract

Twitter is a social networking service that is fast increasing in the 4.0 era because
users may engage with other users via their smartphones or computers from
anywhere and at any time. Through these application, they can interact more
closely with other Twitter users by posting what they are thinking, what is being
done, about events that have just happened, and the latest news and other things
about that event. The study aims to provide a clear understanding of intercultural
communication attitudes among Twitter users during the Fifa World Cup 2022,
focusing on promoting inclusivity and reducing discrimination, thereby increasing
participation from diverse backgrounds. This research uses a qualitative approach
with a discourse analysis method using a theory appraisal framework (Martin &
White, 2005). Data samples used in the form of tweets totaling 20 pieces related to
different events from a selected topic. The results of this study show that the most
dominant intercultural communication attitude is the appreciation attitude of 49%
based on the number of positive and negative patterns and the positive attitude of
appreciation shows 15%, this shows that Twitter users really appreciate and are
judged by the actions and contributions of other users during the 2022 World Cup
event. Other attitude values such as Jugdement occupies 35% and affect is at the
lowest value of 16%, which shows the enthusiasm of Twitter users who judge and
the influence of each event does not affect them with each event that takes place.In
future research, it is expected to look for Twitter topics that are easily accessible
and look for topics in general in the realm of social interaction between strangers,
or look for topics related to humanity and look for media platforms that are still
freely accessible, such as Facebook or Youtube.
