Abstract
This research aimed to understand different personality traits of students
and their ability to speak English. This research was conducted at a private
university in Cirebon. In this research, the researcher utilized purposive sampling
technique as a base to select the participants. The researcher of this research used
qualitative research method to gain deeper understanding of factors that are
prominently affecting the participant ability towards speaking English. In order to
gather the data necessary to conduct this research, the researcher interviewed six
students consisted of three extrovert and three introvert. Trough the data gathered
from the interview the researcher was able to indicate main challenges faced by the
participants. Those challenges consist of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation,
insecurity, anxiety, nervousness, lack of motivation, and lack of topic knowledge.
The participants of this research have various way of dealing with those challenges.
And based on this research, the researcher was able to point out several different
solutions that those participants came up with.
