Abstract

This study introduces the use of EFL students' mindset in overcoming anxiety of
speaking a foreign language. This study used a qualitative method conducted at a
university in Cirebon, consisting of 5 samples. Two female students and 3 male
students were investigated in relation to how they used their mindset to overcome
their anxiety of speaking a foreign language. From the research results that the
researchers got from 2 types of mindsets towards learning responses, all participants
had a growing mindset and showed a mastery response. This greatly affected the
participants in overcoming their anxiety of speaking a foreign language. This study
not only validated mindset responses to overcome speaking anxiety in general but
expanded it in more detail, which will allow future studies to consider examining
the use of mindsets to overcome some of the factors of speaking anxiety. From a
real-world perspective, this can serve as a useful instrument for foreign language
learners to measure and develop their EFL speaking anxiety.
