Abstract

Teachers have important roles in increasing student engagement, one of
which is the teacher's role as a motivator. In the learning process, motivation is a
very important dynamic aspect. Sometimes, students achieve low results not
because of poor ability but because of a lack of motivation to learn so they do not
try to develop their full potential. The learning process will be successful when
students are motivated to learn. Therefore, teachers must encourage students'
motivation to learn. The situation where some students are less enthusiastic about
learning, and even tend to be less enthusiastic about participating in learning,
requires support from the teacher's role. For this reason, teachers are required to
continue studying and learning by improving the quality of teaching and selfknowledge. In the classroom, teachers will have to face many differences in
students' personalities and attitudes, which will be one of the hindering factors for
an effective classroom. Having a happy, enthusiastic, and creative mindset is a
strategy that can increase student engagement. The research design used in this
study was reflective practitioner inquiry. Practitioner surveys are research
conducted based on personal experience. Researchers reflect or recount their own
experiences and then use those experiences as data. In this study, the results
obtained were positive but less meaningful, because there were many factors that
hindered students' participation in class such as interrupted class time, hot
classroom atmosphere, and time. Studying lasts throughout the day.
Key word: student engagement, EFL Classroom.
