The purpose of this study is to find out what impact the use of Instagram has on
intercultural competence. Intercultural competence is a measure of one's efficacy
in communicating and interacting with people from different backgrounds,
cultures, and identities. According to (Fantini and Tarmizi: 2006), cultural
competence is the ability to adeptly navigate a complex environment
characterized by the growing diversity of societies, cultures and lifestyles. Being
able to interact effectively and appropriately with people who are different.
Intercultural is very broad in its existence, so researchers point towards language.
In this study, researchers used qualitative research with a survey method, for
sampling using 2 Interview Instruments and Questionnaires. Data processing uses
a thematic system, from the results of the research sought. From the results of the
study it is known that some people who use the Instagram platform actively seek
out information about local and international cultural languages, so that they can
interact with interlocutors of different languages and avoid disputes.
